Disability Studies - Students

Undergraduate

The Undergraduate Minor in Disability Studies provides you with meaningful coursework to understand how disability intersects with gender, race, class, age, and sexuality.  Students can pursue opportunities related to disability after graduation, whether that is graduate education, non-profit work, or working with people with disabilities. There are two required core courses (English 277 and Speech and Hearing 510) for the minor that are offered regularly.

We also offer flexible study opportunities through the Disability Studies Workshop and the Internship in Disability Studies for busy undergraduates.  For more information, including specific requirements, see the undergraduate student page.

Graduate

A Graduate Interdisciplinary Specialization in Disability Studies (GIS-DS) is a perfect complement to a variety of graduate degrees in the humanities, social sciences, health fields, human services, business, and the physical sciences.

The GIS-DS is designed to fit your busy schedule as a graduate student. The core course (Arts and Sciences 700) is typically offered during summer quarter—when you’ve actually got the time to take additional courses! In addition, the Disability Studies Workshop (Arts and Sciences 600) is offered quarterly.

Once complete, you will receive the GIS-DS designation on your transcript. For more information, including specific requirements, see the graduate student page.
