Enrolling in the GIS-DS
Procedure to Enroll & Receive Transcript Designation
- The student, his/her advisor, and his/her DS advisor completes the GIS-DS Program Form (aka the Enrollment Form). This form serves as the application to enroll in the Interdisciplinary Specialization. The student's advisor from his/her home department and his/her DS advisor must sign the form before it is sent to the Chairperson of the Coordinating Graduate Studies Committee (English).
- The Chairperson in the Coordinating Graduate Studies Committee (English) will review and either approve or disapprove the application to enroll. The Chairperson will then retain the original, and send a copy with an acknowledgment indicating whether or not the request is approved to the student, the Graduate School and the student's home GSC.
- Upon receipt of the acknowledgment from the graduate program coordinating the specialization, the Graduate School will send the student an acknowledgment letter.
- Graduate students must adhere to the curriculum indicated on the approved Graduate Interdisciplinary Specialization Program Form. If changes in the approved curriculum are necessary, the student must complete and submit a new Graduate Interdisciplinary Specialization Program Form and obtain approval (See steps 1-3 above).
- Upon completion of the Interdisciplinary Specialization, the student must complete the Graduate Interdisciplinary Specialization Transcript Designation Form and submit it to the Graduate School for processing.
- The Graduate School will match the courses completed with those in the approved Graduate Interdisciplinary Specialization. Departures from the approved Graduate Interdisciplinary Specialization program can lead to a loss of transcript designation.
